5 out of 5 stars Great book, pick it up when you have a chance!   August 24, 2006

Have a Nice Day! by Mick Foley is the best biography I have ever read. It is the story about a wrestler from the beginning of his career in the late 1980's through 1999 (when the book was published). I watched WWF wrestling during the "Attitude Era" (1996-2001) and really thought this book captures not only wrestling, but the man behind most of the most dangerous stunts during this era.

You do not have to be a fan of or even watch wrestling to enjoy this book. Mick Foley starts the book out when he was about 18 and goes through his teenage years and sports career on Long Island, NY. From this, he gradually progresses through his college years and his growing interest in wrestling. He then begins to write about his wrestling career from the start in the late 1980's and includes his family life in the book as well. Through this book, he gives a great view of all types of wrestling in different locations, from Africa, to Germany, to the South, to the WCW, ECW, and finally his success in the WWF.

Throughout the book, he manages to keep a comedic tone and make you, the reader, feel as if you are there with him, listening to the other wrestler's stories. He includes a lot of information on the wrestlers he had roomed with such as Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Vader, and the Undertaker. However, as it is stated on the insert, this book is not for the squeamish. He goes into detail on many of his painful injuries and shows that even though thought of as the "fake" sport; wrestling is indeed the most brutal.

The book does end rather abruptly. It is picking up a lot of momentum toward the last few pages as Mankind wins his first WWF title, but then stops right there. Don't worry, his second book, Foley is Good picks up right where the action left off in this book.

I read this book originally in 2004 when I was a major fan of the WWF and I found this book to be one of the most entertaining reads I had ever picked up. I don't usually scream through books but Mick Foley's tale I couldn't put down as my thumbs turned the pages at a frantic pace. It's quite evident that this book alone is what got Mick Foley his opportunity to write for Random House and if you are a wrestling fan, this is impossible not to thoroughly enjoy. If you don't like wrestling I think that you would find Mr. Foley's writing style to be very entertaining, humorful, and you WILL feel for Mick as you learn how he got to climb the top of the wrestling world.

The most amazing thing of all is this was not one of those "As Told To" books where the wrestler tells a writer their stories and someone else writes it down. This book was written by Mick on looseleaf paper all by himself and you can practically smell the sweat and feel the emotion as you traverse from word to word in this amazing read.

Is it long?? Yes it's a long book but you will amaze yourself how quickly you will finish this tale. One of my favorite books of all time, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

***** HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION

This book, the first of Mick Foley's, was great. It talked about his childhood, his early wrestling career in Japan, the brutal bloodbaths he had, his family life, and his WWF career. There are so many in-depth stories, especially about his brutal matches in Japan with legends like Funk, Abdullah, Vader, Kanemura, and all of those guys. Features in-depth stories on some of the most famous incidents ever, including the legendary bloodbath at the IWA King of the Deathmatch 1995, the hardcore Hell in the Cell '98 match that would go down as legendary, the famous incident at ringside of an ECW event where Cactus accidentily tossed a burning towel onto Terry Funk, all of his childhood stories, backyard wrestling, Owen Hart's tragic death (R.I.P.), and Foley's first WWF Title win. Foley goes in-depth about all of this, providing extremely interesting and informative insight on his legendary career. There were tons of hilarious stories. I reccomend it

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC!   July 18, 2006
Of the glut of wrestlers autobiographys that flood the world, the one that started it all is far and away the best. I've owned this book for years and have read it dozens of times. It never gets any less enjoyable. If youre a wrestling fan, or even if you're not, do yourself a favor and pick this up right now.
